SALA Exhibition

ABOUT THE EXHBITION

The exhibition called “Shut Your Eyes and See” is part of this year’s SALA festival and runs from 24 July to 30 August 2026.

This exhibition invites artists to explore what it means to see beyond the literal. When we close our eyes, we don’t stop seeing - we imagine, remember, feel, and sense the world in different ways. Although the exhibition has a title (Shut your eyes and see) you are not required to paint to this theme.

The following mediums will be accepted. Oils, acrylics, watercolours, mixed media, mosaics, pastels, gouache, drawings (all kinds, pencils, ink, charcoal etc.), photography (AI may be used to enhance it, however the work may not be created solely with AI).

In addition, sculptures will be accepted (subject to size and availability of space) as well as video submissions that will be then shown on our AV system during the period of the exhibition. Video submissions must be supplied on a USB drive and may not be longer than 10 minutes’ total running length.

All entries must be the creator’s own original work. Artists and photographers may use AI tools, but only to enhance their own imagery, not to generate the primary content.

For photography based works, the base images must be photographs taken by the entrant, and AI may only be used for up to 40% of the final piece (such as refinement, colour work, minor additions, or stylistic enhancement). The creative vision and majority of the work must remain the entrant’s own.

Due to space constraints the number of entries for artworks is capped at 50 and only 1 artwork for artist is permitted.. It is a first come first served basis, so make sure you get your entry in early!
