LIFE'S A BEACH

A Textile Exhibition

LIFE'S A BEACH is an exhibition of new and retrospective work from “The Mexettes”, a friendship

group who met in the outback Queensland mining town of Mount Isa in 1990.

These women, passionate about sewing, with an interest in patchwork and quilting, developed a

friendship group originally known as “The Stackettes” but now known as “The Mexettes”.

The original five members have been joined by others over the years and today total seven. No longer

based in Mount Isa, members now live in SE Queensland and South Australia. The great and enduring

friendship that binds “The Mexettes” together is kept alive with biennial reunions, internet contact,

lunches and shopping get -togethers wherever they may be.

“The Mexettes” went international in 2012 with their “Beautiful Australia” exhibition which premiered in

Beaujolais, France and then went on tour in Australia.

Six talented group members – Sue Dennis, Margaret Edwards, Annette McRae, Diane Sheard, Jennie

Short and Marilyn Tucker participate and combine their technical and artistic skills to present “Life's a

Beach.”
