Terms and Conditions of Membership of the

Gawler Community Gallery – December 2023

Introduction

Founded in 2006, the Gawler Community Gallery is a not-for-profit public membership organisation having a governing committee, volunteers, budget, and events program.

This structure enables us to provide our art related community service and raise funds to assist the Gallery with our activities. While we benefit enormously from support from Gawler Council in the form of the premises provided by Gawler Council for the gallery, and occasional public grants, the gallery receives no regular government funding.

Terms and Conditions of membership:

Membership fee: As a condition of membership, Gawler Community Gallery requires an annual membership fee to be paid by members.

This fee may vary year by year.

The gallery currently only offers one level of membership. We do not offer different types of memberships, such as family, or student memberships.

Membership duration:

The membership year runs from 1st July each year to the following 30th of June. The start and end dates of membership have been updated to the above from previous years and current dates supersede all previous settings.

Benefits: Members receive the following benefits:

  • Discounted rates when hiring the gallery for an exhibition.

  • Members only exhibitions

  • Discounted entry fees to exhibitions

  • Lower commission rate for artwork sales

  • Meet other artists and network

  • Discounted workshop tickets

  • Regular email newsletters

Volunteering: The gallery requires members exhibiting their own work to volunteer for at least one rostered session as Gallery Attendant at the gallery during the period of their exhibition.

Code of conduct: Members are expected to follow the Gallery’s code of conduct:

  1. respecting the gallery’s property, staff, and other members

  2. refraining from disruptive behaviour

Voting rights: Members have the right to vote at the gallery Annual General Meeting on matters such as board elections and policies and procedures.

Termination of membership:

The gallery reserves the right to terminate a member’s membership if they violate the code of conduct or fail to pay their membership fee.

Grievance procedure:

The Gallery’s has grievance procedure in place to address complaints or concerns raised by members.

A member having a grievance may present their grievance to the gallery committee for consideration. Complaints must be presented to the committee in writing at least two weeks prior to the next regular committee meeting. The committee will consider the complaint and respond to the complainant.

Confidentiality:

Members are required to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information about the organization and its members.

Conflict of interest: Members must avoid conflicts of interest and are required to disclose any conflicts of interest that may arise in relation to the gallery.
